What teeth straightening options are there?

At Core Dental we love helping our patients get the smile they want, and for many people that involves teeth straightening. Whether they have gaps between their teeth or crooked teeth, it can make people self conscious about their smile. As well as improving the aesthetics of your smile, straightening your teeth can also improve the health and function of your teeth. Straighter teeth make it easier to properly chew your food and keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy.

When you come see us about straightening your teeth, your smile will firstly be assessed by a dentist or orthodontist. You can discuss your main concerns with your clinician and the outcome you are hoping to achieve with orthodontic treatment. Then comes the decision as to which type of treatment will be most suitable for you, which is something that your clinician will talk you through.

We can offer a few different treatment options when it comes to teeth straightening.

Invisalign

Invisalign has become a very popular orthodontic treatment choice for many of our patients; the treatment involves a clear aligner worn over the teeth that shifts them into the desired position. It is not as invasive as braces as the clear aligner is removable. But the other side of this is the fact that Invisalign only works with patient compliance: patients have to make sure they wear the aligner for the minimum of 22 hours a day otherwise the aligners are not effective.

Conventional braces

Made up of metal brackets attached to the outside of teeth with a wire running through them, conventional braces allow for more movement of teeth. The treatment is generally quicker than Invisalign and more affordable, but for those who dislike the look of braces this might not be their preferred option.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are attached to the back of the teeth, making them barely visible to others. They work in the same way that conventional braces do, though they do require more training from clinicians to be able to properly perform the treatment, which makes them more expensive than conventional braces. Lingual braces are a good option for patient who need a lot of tooth movement but don’t want their braces to be visible.

Book an appointment with one of our dentists or orthodontists to find out which teeth straightening treatment will be most suitable for you.
